gekko_seized_02On 1 June 2012, Myanmar Forest Department, in active cooperation with member agencies of the National Wildlife Law Enforcement Task Force such as customs and police, seized 10 individuals of Gekko species at the Yangon International Airport. These Gekkos were smuggled from Malaysia by a Myanmar citizen through flight no. 8M-502.

Now, the offender has been taken action under Section 35(A) of the Protection of Wildlife and Protected Areas Law (1994) and its rules (2002). Section 35(A) states that whoever commits hunting without a license shall on conviction be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years or with fine which may extend to Kyats 10,000 or with both.

This Section 35(A) is enacted particularly for protection of those species not listed in protected species like Gekko under the above mentioned Law.
