Myanmar hosts the ASEAN-WEN’s 5th Annual Meeting   

At the 5th Annual Meeting of the ASEAN-WEN in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, Southeast Asian governments and international partners expressed strong commitments to further foster law enforcement and strengthen collaboration to tackle wildlife crime. Significant progress by authorities was acknowledged in wildlife crime prosecution, judicial mechanisms, and transnational investigations of African ivory trafficking.          Read full story

Cambodia officially establishes Coordination Unit and
Task Force                                                     

                                                                                                                                                   
Cambodia’s Wildlife Enforcement Network Coordination Unit (CWCU) is officially established. Housed within the Department of Legislation and Law Enforcement to ensure sustainability, the CWCU will oversee all activities related to wildlife law enforcement and help coordinate with other ASEAN countries on cross-border investigations.

Authorities in Viet Nam have launched an investigation into what appear to be connected ivory smuggling cases, following the discovery of mutliple tons of elephant tusks by Customs during two separate seizures at Hai Phong in May, 2010.
