| Several hundred endangered birds rescued in the Philippines |

Philippine authorities near Davao City have rescued 330 endangered birds, reptiles and mammales and arrested eight suspected smugglers. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) estimate the value of the contraband at around PHP3.2 million (around US$ 69,400).
